The IEC says women make up over 50 percent of new registrations on the voters' roll. But, that doesn't always correlate with females showing up on voting day. The IEC has been in prisons this week hoping to register as many inmates as possible ahead of the general elections. It’s a steep ask for the electoral body if it's to increase interest from 2019. A former Silverton police commander has poured cold water on claims that accused 1 Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya was assaulted while detained at his station. Colonel Karel Swanepoel was giving evidence in a trial within a trial at the High Court in Pretoria. This as the state is nearing the end of its case to convince the court these confessions should be admitted as evidence in court. The statements claim a contract was taken out on the soccer star's life by his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo. Build One South Africa is calling on the government to withdraw its appeal against the High Court order that essential services be exempt from blackouts. The court ordered that reasonable steps be taken by no later than the end of January, to ensure public hospitals, clinics, schools and police stations are not affected.
