AMCU is taking Gold One to court over the dismissal of hundreds of workers. Earlier this month AMCU said it had dismissed 401 workers saying it had to act after they were involved in not one but two underground hostage situations last year. In October last year, AMCU workers held an underground sit-in demanding representation at the time. Some miners were reportedly held hostage with them. In December another reported hostage situation lasted for five days motivated by protests against the dismissal of workers following the drama in October.
