The ANC Youth League says it will be marching to the Higher Education Department to address issues affecting student tuition and accommodation fees. Meanwhile, National Student Financial Aid Scheme board chairperson Ernest Khosa has announced that he will be taking a leave of absence. Khosa says this is to allow the board to deal with allegations against him contained in audio recordings distributed by the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse. It's out with the festive season and back to school and according to a 1Life survey, over 50-percent of consumers don't save for back-to-school expenses. Close to 90-percent of consumers will have to cut back on expenses to cover these expenses. The majority of consumers end up using their January salaries to cover these expenses. Experts are concerned following the dismissal of cases against 23 of the 28 banks accused of rand manipulation. The Competition Appeals Court sighted a lack of evidence. Pundits say this has exposed weaknesses in the efficacy of regulatory oversights within the banking sector. The Competition Commission lodged a complaint in 2015 alleging that various financial institutions colluded to rig the value of the rand against the dollar. The Competition Appeals Court has dismissed the Competition Commission's charges against 24 banks it wanted to prosecute for alleged currency manipulation. The Appeals Court found sufficient facts existed to only take four international banks to court. The Commission had wanted to prosecute 28 banks for a conspiracy to rig the rand between 1007 and 2013. Only Investec and a handful of international banks remain in the crosshairs. The unbundling of Eskom will become a reality soon. This follows the appointment of the Board of Directors of the National Transmission Company of South Africa. The team is tasked with the separation of Eskom’s three entities, Generation, Distribution, and Transmission. The International Court of Justice will on Thursday hold the first hearing in the country's genocide case against Israel. South Africa filed the lawsuit at the end of December, accusing Israel of genocide in its war in Gaza. South Africa is represented by two professors of international law, John Dugard of Wits University and Max du Plessis of the University of KwaZulu-Natal. South Africa is applying for “provisional measures” for urgent, interim relief to prevent what it says are the ongoing acts of genocide against the Palestinians living in Gaza.
