A surprise search operation kicked off at St Albans Correctional Centre in Gqeberha early on Monday morning. The operation was led by Correctional Services National Commissioner, Samuel Thobakgale. It follows several complaints over the number of killings, robberies and acts of extortion orchestrated by inmates using cell phones from within the prison. The commissioner says this was not a once-off operation as the department is continuously conducting similar raids at the country's prisons. eNCA's Nceba Ntlanganiso was there and filed this report. The case against five men accused of being part of the construction mafia has been postponed to Friday (20 September 2025). Five Pinelands High School pupils who participated in a mock slave auction in July, have been sanctioned. It follows an investigation and disciplinary procedures by the School Governing Body after a viral video of what appeared to be coloured pupils auctioning off their black classmates. The four accused in the disappearance case of six-year-old Joshlin Smith were back in court on Monday but new leads forced the Vredenburg Magistrate's court to postpone the case yet again. The accused, including Joshlin’s mother Kelly Smith, face charges of kidnapping, as well as trafficking for the purpose of exploitation. Tributes continue to pour in for the veteran actor, Darlington Michaels, who was popularly known as Papa G.
