The state has proposed bail of R200,000 for former Cape Town mayoral committee member, Malusi Booi. The state alleges he had a corrupt relationship with the alleged leader of the 28s gang, Ralph Stanfield and his wife. Booi's relationship with the couple led to 11 tenders being granted to three companies linked to the Stanfields. The state is proposing bail for the other nine accused ranging from R20,000 to R200,000. Ekurhuleni has about 6,000 informal businesses and spaza shops but only a thousand are compliant. That's the figure revealed by Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza. Alleged serial rapist Sipho Lucas Phiri claims he had consensual sex with the state's first witness and that they agreed on a payment of R500. The 39-year-old, who's married with children, faces 114 counts ranging from rape, holding his victims hostage and defeating the ends of justice. The former Prasa security guard, is accused of raping at least 37 women and girls between 2018 and 2023.
