A South African woman found guilty of killing her three daughters in Timaru, New Zealand, has been sentenced to 18 years in a mental health facility. Lauren Dickason had earlier admitted killing her 2-year-old twin daughters Maya and Karla, and their 6-year-old sister Lianè, at their home nearly two years ago. Prosecutors acknowledged Dickason had suffered from depression but said it wasn’t enough to warrant a medical defence. Is a mental health facility a better place to rehabilitate someone like her?

Three people have been shot and killed in Mthwalume on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast. Relatives of an Eastern Cape family are blaming a power outage for the deaths of their loved ones. This comes after a devastating fire claimed the lives of a young mother, her two children and a relative. Relatives say the family was forced to use candles, which set fire to the home. The ANC reports that negotiations for a Government of National Unity are progressing well.
