President Yoweri Museven engaged with journalists from the Teso sub-region during his ongoing regional assessment tour for Wealth Creation and the Parish Development Model at the State Lodge in Soroti District. The presidents three-day tour of teso subregion is running under the theme: “Securing Your Future Through Wealth Creation and Shared Prosperity” and it aims to address regional challenges and promote economic transformation.
His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged to source more funding for the Parish Development Model (PDM) program if the current beneficiaries exhibit high levels of performance and proper management. Museveni, who concluded his three-day Wealth Creation tour in Teso sub region this Wednesday evening, addressed a public rally in Kaberamaido district. He also reiterated his commitment to punish those betraying the program.

The National Social Security fund has rolled out the “Smartlife Flexi” a voluntary smart saving product to help members save for specific goals over defined periods. The Uganda Red Cross has responded to a call from flood victims in Katakwi district by distributing essential items to those impacted by the recent heavy rains. NSSF has expanded its catchment area from mandatory worker contributions to voluntary savers in both the informal and business sectors. Under the new scheme, launched today, both existing and new savers can save for both the short and long term and hold multiple accounts. Earlier in the day, we spoke to Winnie Byanyima, the wife of Dr. Kizza Besigye, about the circumstances surrounding her husband's arrest. Dr. Besigye was reportedly picked up in Nairobi. Winnie Byanyima explained that Dr. Besigye had traveled with Hajji Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya to Nairobi to attend the book launch of Kenyan politician Martha Karua. She further stated that Dr. Besigye, who had booked into an apartment in Nairobi, failed to attend the book launch on Sunday, which raised concerns among his hosts. The Third Division Court Martial, chaired by Col. Francis Kateraho in Moroto, has sentenced Private Richard Echom to 30 years in prison for attempted murder. Echom was convicted for shooting his partner, Daphine Atim, in July 2022 after spending seven million shillings on her.
The Minister for health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has urged all stakeholders to work together to promote safe use of antimicrobials. She also urged healthcare professionals to prescribe antibiotics responsibly and patients to adhere to treatment guidelines. The world health Organization has classified antimicrobial resistance as one of the top 10 global health threats that must be attention. Antimicrobial resistance according to health professionals, increases the spread of disease, severe illness and deaths. The minister for health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has now urged all stakeholders to promote safe use of antibiotics. Dr. Aceng was officiating at the on-going 3-day antimicrobial resistance conference being held in Kampala, on the theme; educate, advocate. act now.
President Yoweri Museveni has urged leaders in Teso sub-region to prioritise the fight against land fragmentation in the region to foster sustainable development. While addressing a gathering at the home of the Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, in Katakwi town council, Ngariam county, Katakwi District, Museveni emphasized the need for proactive leadership to address Africa’s persistent challenges. Earlier, the president toured the Vice President’s model farm named Katakwi Intensive Farm which features poultry, piggery, fish farming, banana growing and dairy farming. The president identified land fragmentation as a significant obstacle to development.
MPs across the political divide have condemned how former FDC president Dr. Col. Kizza Besigye was arrested. The retired colonel was arrested in Nairobi on Saturday and arraigned before the military court today. The legislators have described the whole episode as a violation of human rights, calling for a strong stand against all injustice. KCCA has repeated its call to the Ham Group of Companies to halt construction activities at the Jugula drainage channel in Nakivubo. The call followed an inspection by KCCA's acting Executive Director, Frank Rusa, at the site of the structure. Rusa was met with concerns about the impact on local traders and the historical St. Balikudembe Pilgrim site, whose access has been compromised. Additionally, Hamis Kiggundu, the proprietor of Ham Enterprises, faced criticism for proceeding with construction works without proper consultation. However, he insisted that there had been negotiations with area leaders regarding a new access route to the pilgrim site.
