The government has once again announced new oil prospects in two regions of the country. State Minister for Energy Okasai Opolot says preliminary exploration studies are being conducted in the Moroto-Kadam and Hoima basins, and he has also invited interested investors to participate. Uganda’s known commercial quantities of crude oil are located in the Albertine Graben basin, where production is expected to start in the near future. The current Government AI Index report by Oxford Insights ranked Uganda 132 out of 193 countries worldwide. The index is based on three pillars: government, technology and data, and infrastructure. While this may not be a positive statistic, local AI experts and hubs, in partnership with the government, have trained a total of 2,567 individuals so far. Kisoro District held a by-election this Thursday to elect a new Woman Member of Parliament after the passing of former MP and State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, in September. Voting took place from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with 162,189 registered voters participating across 322 polling stations. Counting of votes is currently under way.
President Museveni has today officially received credentials of seven newly appointed Ambassadors at State House Entebbe, reaffirming Uganda's commitment to international cooperation and diplomacy. The envoys included H.E Lisa Chesney MBE from the United Kingdom, H.E Leonard Zulu, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uganda, H.E Dr. Madou Diallo from Mali, H.E Firas Khouri from Jordan, H.E Gentiana Serbu from Romania, H.E Katarina Zuffa Leligdonova from Slovakia, and H.E. Tone Tinnes from Norway. In his remarks, President Museveni welcomed the Ambassadors, noting that Uganda is committed to fostering strong, mutually beneficial relationships with each represented nation. He emphasised Uganda's dedication to strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation on various regional and international issues.
