Tourism is expected to contribute $11.1 trillion to the global GDP in 2024. According to the latest World Tourism Barometer by UN Tourism, around 790 million tourists travelled internationally in the first seven months of 2024, about 11% more than in 2023 and only 4% less than in 2019. Data show a strong start to the year, followed by a more modest second quarter. Uganda has the potential to position itself as a high-value destination that offers exceptional wildlife, adventure and cultural experiences which match or exceed those of its neighbours. However, it currently lacks the confidence, infrastructure and skills to capitalise on its competitive advantage. Government is also promoting domestic tourism through various initiatives to encourage locals to explore and experience the beauty of their country. The progress made at Kiira Motors Vehicle Manufacturing Plant in Jinja has impressed Members of the East African Legislative Assembly. The Regional Legislators say this is the way to go Africa as the continent strives to catch up with the developed world. This they expressed as they toured the Motor Vehicle Assembling Plant whose capacity some of them said is an achievement that is rarely captured by media outside Africa. Into the main entrance of Kiira Motors Corporation in Jinja, they drove. Members of the East African Legislative Assembly, were here to experience the only well-equipped vehicle manufacturing facility in Africa. To take them through the guided tour was Akovuku Albert the Director production.
The marriage bill 2024 moved by Tororo woman member of parliament seeks to provides that civil marriage be declared as polygamous. However, during consultations of the bill in legal committee of parliament some MPS said this will affect the law is being applied to the already existing civil marriage and lead to men avoiding church marriages.
