Uganda’s national football team the Cranes has gone through its fourth day of training ahead of two world cup qualifiers. The Cranes start with this Friday’s 7pm kick off against Botswana before a next Monday date against highflying Algeria at Mandela national stadium Namboole. Coach Paul Put and his assistants including Sam Ssimbwa laying emphasis on team bonding, hard pressing, wing play, commitment and focus ahead of the group G 2026 world cup qualifiers. Though several professional players are yet to arrive, the Coach has many of his stars in the training sessions that are conducted at the outside pitch. Some of the players at his disposal are goal keepers Ismail Watenga and Nafian Alionzi,defenders Kenneth Semakula and Isaac Muleme and midfielders Umar Lutalo and Travis Mutyaba.
Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and visitors who have flocked the Namugongo area for prayers and martyrs’ day commemoration presented a lucrative business opportunity to the vendors and traders dealing in an array of merchandise. However there has a been a general concern of economic strain due to the supply of goods and services exceeding demand.
President Yoweri Museveni has condemned the act of Kabaka Mwanga for killing the martyrs saying, this was uncalled for since at the end of it the Gospel was later spread all over Uganda. President's speech presented by the speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among where he urged the church and Christians to embrace government projects to change their lives.
The police have today arrested over 115 suspected criminals during the Namugongo Martyrs Day celebrations. Speaking to NTV, Luke Owoyesigire the deputy police spokesperson, Kampala Metropolitan said that most of those arrested were involved in thefts of phones and other belongings for the pilgrims. All these arrests were made due to the heavy deployment of the police, army, and Uganda prisons personnel. The Church of Uganda has completed the repayment of a 60 billion shillings loan which it acquired from Equity Bank for the construction of the Church House in Kampala. Archbishop Stephen Kazimba Mugalu celebrated that the structure is now under the full ownership of the Church after the payment of the balance of 9 billion Shillings.
