Entebbe Municipality is seeking more money to equip level health centres in the sub-district to decongest Entebbe Referral Hospital. According to Entebbe leaders, the main hospital in the area serves people from five districts of Gomba, Butambala, Kalangala, Wakiso, and Kampala among others; which overwhelms the medical facility. They say the referral hospital handles major cases while lower facilities manage other minor sicknesses. Statistics from the Ministry of Health show that Uganda has 200,000 women suffering from the condition. Every year, 1,900 women develop the condition, but only 1,500 surgeries are performed. Uganda currently has only 25 fistula surgeons, which is insufficient. However, with assistance from partners, efforts are underway to clear the backlog of patients. Today, the UN's focus is on prevention to end fistula by 2030. Prevention entails encouraging women to deliver in hospitals and ensuring that health workers adequately attend to women in labor, promptly recommending cesarean section deliveries if necessary. Consequently, debt affordability has weakened, with interest payments consuming 22.2% of government revenue in fiscal 2023, up from 14.2% in fiscal 2019. Does this trend limit Uganda's fiscal space to respond to future shocks if it persists? #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda
