The latest report by risk management, analytics, and credit ratings firm Moody’s, has lowered Uganda’s ability to repay debt, or what is known as a downgrade of the government’s long-term foreign currency and local currency issuer ratings to B3 from B2, and changed the outlook to stable from negative. This is the first time the country has gotten such a rating since 2015, when Uganda rated B1, the development financial analysts have termed bad news that could boil down to a sovereign debt crisis and calls for tight discipline going forward. A section of MPs has started the process of collecting signatures intended to move a motion in parliament to remove four parliamentary commissioners from their positions on grounds of misconduct not befitting members of parliament. The legislators, led by Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo, accuse the commissioners of awarding themselves 1.7 billion shillings as service awards without the approval of parliament. Over 190 pilgrims from the Kabale Diocese including districts of Kabale, Rubanda, and Kisoro, have began their 10-day pilgrimage to the Namugongo shrine for the Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations. The pilgrims departed from Rushoroza Cathedral at 5 am, led by Alphonse Biraaho. They plan to make several stopovers before arriving at Namugongo on May 31st. Amidst songs of praise, worship, and prayer, some pilgrims shared that they would use this journey to pray for peace and stability in the country.

UPDF spokesperson Brig General Felix Kulayigye has asked the people of Kibuku and Bukedi region to enhance their work of preserving wetlands, while also stopping the growing of rice there. Godfrey Golooba, the outgoing police director of the human resource department has asked government to allocate more resources towards police refresher trainings in a bid to build research-based police structures. The High Court in Kampala has for the second time refused to release on bail Molly Katanga who is accused of murdering her husband Henry Katanga last year. The 55-year-old Molly Katanga will now stay on remand at Luzira Women's Prison as she awaits her trial on July, 2nd, 2024. She is accused of shooting her husband Katanga on November, 2nd 2023. Molly Katanga has so far made two unsuccessful attempts to bail in which she contends that she needs to attend trial while coming from home due to her grave illnesses.
