The Constitutional Court has dismissed a petition by the Initiative for Social Economic Rights (ISER) regarding the 1.4 trillion shillings loaned to Italian investor FINASI-Roko for the construction of an International specialized hospital in Lubowa. In a unanimous judgment written by former IGG Irene Mulyagonja, the five justices ruled that the government didn't need to conduct public consultations before committing itself to extend the said loan, as Parliament's contracts committee adequately represented the interests of the public. The Lubowa Hospital project, which has since stalled, was to be financed through promissory notes from the government of Uganda as a public-private partnership, where the construction firm would build and run a 264-bed International hospital and commence pay-back payments within eight years. What does the Initiative for Social Economic Rights (ISER) make of the judgment? #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda
The Inspectorate of Government says they are planning to deliver a report to President Museveni on the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among's declaration of wealth, including alleged possession of houses in the United Kingdom. Governance experts indicate that Among could find herself in a complicated situation, including risking her parliamentary seat if it turns out that she owns the houses but they were not included in her declaration. Human rights lawyer Nicholas Opiyo is optimistic that information confided to President Museveni by the British High Commissioner to Uganda is close to the truth. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda

The Supreme Court will deliver a ruling on notice in an appeal where the Attorney General argues that it is legal to try civilians in the Army courts. The appeal originated from a July 2021 Constitutional Court ruling that halted the trial of civilians in military courts, stating that they are tribunals solely for disciplining serving military personnel. The Attorney General, dissatisfied with the ruling, obtained a stay of execution in the Supreme Court pending the appeal's hearing and final disposal. The Attorney General, the chief legal advisor of the Government, seeks to hold the five justices of the Supreme Court at fault for concluding that the military court cannot be independent and impartial in its trials. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda
