Bulambuli and Bukedea flood victims have received Red Cross relief, and have been urged to prioritize environmental conservation for disaster prevention. Over 300 residents affected by recent floods in the Elgon region received items from Red Cross.
A team of health experts has developed a mobile application to track Reproductive Tract Infections among the public. The team from Makerere University Hospital is hopeful that the application will improve doctor-patient interaction and, most importantly, help reduce the burden of Reproductive Tract Infections. Kampala Capital City Authority is planning to re-roof all schools that were roofed using asbestos with iron sheets beginning with Makerere College School to improve the health of learners. It follows Ministry of health call to replace buildings roofed with asbestos sheets because they can cause cancer to the learners.
The royal Danish Embassy, alongside Ireland, the Netherlands, and Sweden, has initiated a partnership with civil society organizations in Karamoja. This collaboration aims to enhance accountability, civic engagement, and human rights in the region.
At least 400 Youths in Bidi-Bidi Refugee settlement in Yumbe district have created jobs through self-employment. These youth are beneficiaries of the 18 month “Yumbe Game Changers Project: from skills to employability”, skilling program. An evaluation report by Yumbe district leaders shows that the youth are earning between 50.000 to 150.000 per week. Yumbe district Deputy RDC Mathew Vuyaya Vuni addressed the closing meeting for the project and appealed to youth in the region to stop drug abuse and work to change their livelihood.
Pope Francis marked Social Communication Day in the church by calling on the media to remain focused on their profession despite the challenges they face. The call came in a sermon delivered by retired Papal Pro-Nuncio Augustine Kasujja at a special high mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Gayaza. A heavy storm has de-roofed Puranga Catholic Parish in Pader District, which Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja was scheduled to commission today. The occasion had been called to celebrate the Parish's Golden Jubilee. A heavy storm hit the area two days ago, affecting the church and a nearby school. By the time the storm calmed down, the church had lost its roof.
