Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has urged the Uganda Bureau of Statistics to increase the speed at which the 2024 Population census is being carried out. According to Among, a quick interaction with members of the public has revealed that the majority of the population has yet to be enumerated, raising questions as to whether the census will be completed within the designated 10 days. Uganda has been named the best investment destination in Africa. This was at the annual world’s biggest platform for investment which is an activity held in Abu Dhabi and attracts investors from all across the globe. The Police have started recruiting personnel to join its ranks across the country. The recruitment drive is targeting around 2,500 people, who will be enlisted into the forces as probationary police constables. The potential recruits are expected to hold a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent. Mudslides and stone debris have covered most parts of the Kabale-Kisoro Road, making access to the area difficult. As of today, the mudslides had partly blocked some roads, leaving many stranded and unable to reach their destinations. The Kabale-Kisoro road connects the town of Kabale with the towns of Kisoro, as well as the border posts of Bunagana, at the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Kyanika, at the border with Rwanda. The Office of the Prime Minister has joined the Red Cross Society in supporting over 290 survivors of landslides and floods in the districts of Bunyangabu and Kasese with food and non-food items. Red Cross officials also erected two tents at Karugaya Primary School to help support the displaced residents. The State minister for ICT and national guidance Godfrey Kabbyanga has commended private institutions equipping youth with Vocational skills. The Minister was launching Rwetutu Christian vocational institute in Lake Katwe Sub-County in Kasese district.
The mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje has advised the Busia Muslim community to embrace the ongoing census exercise and the parish development model program for socio economic development. Mubajje disclosed that that the Muslim community has carried out sufficient research and is satisfied that PDM money is meant for development and urged the entire public to embrace the program.
