The cost of tax compliance is making it difficult for manufacturers to continue investing in Uganda. Citing the Digital Tax Stamps (DTS), a new research report titled ‘Impact of Digital Tax Stamps on Manufacturers in Uganda’ indicates that the related costs are too heavy for local SMEs, already stressed by the high cost of doing business. Andrew Kilonzo, the Managing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited, made these remarks on the sidelines of a report release hosted by the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) and PwC. He suggested that the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) should widen the net to include hundreds of non-compliant enterprises to lessen the cost. The meeting was also attended by URA Commissioner General Musinguzi Rujoki. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda
The African Development Bank says it will now start channeling business credit facilities through enterprises with complete projects in need of capital, pooled together to access up to 30 million dollars. The bank aims to eliminate exploitative commercial banks, which it accuses of using their funds to invest in high-yielding local capital markets instead of extending credit to businesses in desperate need. This announcement was made during a two-day Sustainable Financing for Manufacturing Forum in Kampala. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda

The parish development model, a program aimed at lifting Ugandans out of poverty, risks ending up like all the previous costly projects over the years unless the government puts in place a driving policy to ensure value for money. An NTV spot check in the Soroti district, for instance, shows old failure symptoms, where some beneficiaries say the money is too little to make any change in their lives, while others see it as a political gift. Some have received less or used the money to pay school fees. All these challenges, amidst worsening climate-related challenges, have affected many recipients, whose households largely depend on agriculture for a living. Last month, the government released the second tranche of PDM funds totaling up to UGX 267 billion to be disbursed among 5,322 vetted SACCOs country-wide, with each set to receive UGX 50 million. Malcolm Musiime reports. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda
