Premature coffee valued at 40 million shillings, impounded by officials of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority in a joint operation with the police, has been destroyed. The order to destroy the coffee was made by the Kibaale Magistrates Court. The same court remanded George Nsereko, a resident of Kihande village in Masindi district, to Kibaale government prisons on charges of harvesting immature coffee cherries. Ugandans have been urged to use the 40 million acres of arable land in Uganda to create jobs While officiating at the international labour day celebrations in fortportal president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said the problem is not lack of jobs but lack of vision. Uganda has joined the rest of the world to commemorate international labour day in fortportal. This year's celebrations comes at a time when workers still face challenges of poor working environment and pay and ministry of gender labour and social development is to put emphasis on fair and effective mechanisms for solving disputes at the work place. While officiating at the function in fortportal the president of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said the problem is not jobs but attitude. He re-echoed his advise for the 4 acre model emphasizing that jobs comes from wealth creation.
President Museveni has urged small-scale farmers in Tooro region to diversify to other high value crops that guarantee significant returns in investment rather than over-relying on tea growing. While addressing the Public at the International Labor Day celebrations in Fort-Portal city, Museveni listed crops that have high demand locally and globally and also pointed out some of the reasons why the demand for Tea leaves on the global market is declining.
