After peace talks presided over by the president with traders, resulting in the reopening of businesses that had closed shop for a week in protest against an e-fiscal receipting and invoicing system, the URA now announces that traders downtown and across the country will have access to service centers to be set up soon. These centers will provide hands-on experience on how to use technology to pay tax. When the war in Sudan broke out on April 15, 2023, several countries rushed to evacuate their nationals stuck in the war by all means. Uganda responded early and evacuated over two hundred citizens who were repatriated to the country nearly two weeks after the war had started. The mid-term review of the NRM Manifesto, two and a half years into its implementation, reveals that the government has achieved 35% of its commitments, with 46% underway and 19% pending. Wills Bashasha, the Director of the Manifesto Implementation Unit at the Office of the President, noted an improvement from the previous score of 20% in May 2023. Despite progress, corruption persists as a major obstacle to the manifesto's successful implementation.
