The majority of downtown traders have reopened their businesses after five days of closure in protest of the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution, a system used by the Uganda Revenue Authority to collect VAT. Traders operating in major arcades and busy business hubs like Kikuubo, Mini Price, and Arua Park are now operating normally, except a few closed shops. The Petroleum Authority of Uganda has implemented strict measures to minimize the impact of ongoing oil drilling activities at Murchison Falls National Park. Environmentalists from various civil society organizations in Uganda, alongside government agencies, have launched a comprehensive 10-year conservation plan to protect critically endangered tree species on the verge of extinction due to escalating human activities in both protected and non-protected areas. Uganda boasts a rich biodiversity with 854 tree species, of which 65 have been evaluated and categorized as critically endangered, endangered, or vulnerable. Additionally, seven tree species endemic to Uganda are facing critical endangerment and require urgent conservation efforts. It was a somber mood at St. Joseph and Bruno Sserunkuuma Chaplaincy in Luzira as mourners gathered to pay their last respects to the late Raphael Okiyot, who died after his car was crashed by a concrete mixing truck at Nkumba on the Kampala - Entebbe Highway on Wednesday. Paul Awalyo, Okiyot's father, told mourners during a requiem mass that out of his four sons, he has lost three. One of Okiyot's girlfriends, Faith Kwagala, who is a Grade One Magistrate in Kyenjojo District, apologized to mourners for the chaos and drama she caused during burial arrangements.
