About five million girls in Uganda lose at least 18 percent of their annual school time each year during menstruation due to a lack of sanitary pads. According to the Uganda Red Cross Society, the majority of girls who cannot obtain sanitary pads stay home during their menstrual periods to avoid stigma. At Luwero Girls Primary School in Luwero District, according to Judith Babirye, the senior woman teacher, girls who can’t afford modern sanitary pads opt for rudimentary ways of managing periods such as using rags, which sometimes expose them to infections, leading to many dropping out of school. The school has received 230 boxes of sanitary pads from Omutima Heart for Uganda and General Wares, the producers of Softcare pads. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda

In the year 1924, E.J Wayland completed his "Petroleum in Uganda" report to be published in 1925. Next year will mark a centenary since serious efforts were made to begin oil production in Uganda, and according to the calendar, 2025 is the year when First Oil is expected. However, it all comes down to this year, 2024; the remaining months will have to count if Uganda is to meet its deadline of 100 years since commercial oil was first considered. Today, we delve into the main event: the completion of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline. Joining me on the program are Innocent Katungi, Supply and Commercial Manager at Lake Victoria Logistics, and Humphrey Asiimwe, CEO of the Ugandan Chamber of Mines and Petroleum. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda

The Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) has written to Nakaseke District Chairperson Ignatius Koomu, asking him to cease the assessment of teachers in Nakaseke District, which, according to the union, is unprofessional, irrational, and unnecessary. Through its lawyers, UNATU warns of legal action to be taken against Koomu if he declines to heed their request. On Monday, Koomu and the Nakaseke District Education Department released results from the assessment tests given to 51 teachers from 17 schools that registered poor performance in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations. The results indicated that the best score was 92%, whereas the worst was 27%. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda

Uganda Bankers Association has asked parliament not to consider the amendment of charging value added tax on the proceeds of the collateral that has been auctioned because the transaction is related to a financial service which is not supposed to be imposed VAT. While appearing before the finance committee of parliament to give their input on the amendments in the tax bills the executive director Uganda bankers association Wilbrod Awor said this will lead to an additional 18% VAT on the proceeds and also makes recovery much more difficult.
