Kampala Capital City Authority is seeking partnerships to improve the water and sanitation infrastructure across the city to guarantee quality and healthy living of her populace. According to KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaaka, currently the city grapples with an overload in the few existing sanitation facilities that operate at a ratio of 40 people to one toilet stance. She was speaking at the handover ceremony of nine water and sanitation facilities from NWSC to KCCA.
The leader of the opposition Joel Ssenyonyi has called for government intervention to help the people of Buvuma. Currently, the water levels have gone up and some houses have been submerged with water. The situation according to the Leader of the opposition Joel Ssenyonyi is in a dire state. A delegation of officials from the North Universities, based in northern Europe, have pledged more support to Mountains of the Moon University in Fort Portal in the areas of research, agriculture and tourism. The National Water and Sewerage Corporation has started an initiative to improve sanitation status within different parts of Kampala city. The project will oversee the construction of sanitation facilities in 25 schools, 9 markets and 30 public spaces all of which shall be under the management of KCCA. A week after a rains storm literally shut down life in six sub-counties of Butaleja, life is slowly returning to normal. The floods that affected Butaleja last week closed down the Mbale-Butaleja road and saw five schools closed. Several homes were also submerged and crops were damaged. The IGG's office has cautioned public servants to be more serious about declaring their assets and liabilities every two years as a way of tracking those who accumulate wealth illegally. The call, by the Director in charge of Advocacy at the IGG's Office, James Penywii, came as he met with the Masaka Sub Region officials on an anti-corruption drive there. Parliament has instructed a forensic audit and investigation on the 80 billion shillings that have been used for the renovation of the Mandela National Stadium in Nambole. This comes after the Minister of State for Sports Peter Ogwang presented a report on the expenditure of the Funds and asked for more 17 Billion shillings to complete the renovation. In 2020, Kampala Capital City Authority commissioned non-motorized zones that were paved to increase the safety of pedestrians by providing walkways, bicycles, and car lanes that would be used by the business community on the street to offload their merchandise. However, the non-motorized street street is a total mess where boda boda riders now have more rights than pedestrians who were the intended beneficiaries of the plan. The government has launched a mass resettlement program for those living in landslide-prone areas in Bududa to safer areas. Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja launched the exercise today at Bubita sub-county in Bududa district. She gave out 10 million shillings and two acres of land per family.
