The 2029/2020 Uganda Household Survey found that one in five people in Uganda is too poor to afford 6,000 shillings per day. Among those in this category is David Mumbere, a resident of Katogo zone, Ggaba in Kampala's Makindye division. Mumbere says his family has fallen on hard times, which means they sometimes survive on a cup of porridge and one meal a day. Officials in the tax and legal department at Deloitte Uganda have given mixed reactions to the new tax proposals but have also identified positives, especially regarding the exemption of private equity income. The Constitutional Court in Kampala has dismissed a petition that was filed by gay activists who wanted the Anti Homosexuality Act of 2023 that criminalizes same-sex among adults to be nullified. The judgment was read by the Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera. Uganda Hippos player Hakim Mutebi’s heroics at the recently completed African Games in Accra, Ghana, have earned him the player of the month accolade from the Fortbet Real Stars Agency. The midfielder lifted Uganda Hippos when it mattered most, scoring in Uganda’s historical 4-2 comeback against DR Congo in the semi-finals. He beat off competition from Queen Cranes forward Catherine Nagadya and Usama Arafat of KCCA FC.
