President Yoweri Museveni has urged leaders in Teso sub-region to prioritise the fight against land fragmentation in the region to foster sustainable development. While addressing a gathering at the home of the Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, in Katakwi town council, Ngariam county, Katakwi District, Museveni emphasized the need for proactive leadership to address Africa’s persistent challenges. Earlier, the president toured the Vice President’s model farm named Katakwi Intensive Farm which features poultry, piggery, fish farming, banana growing and dairy farming. The president identified land fragmentation as a significant obstacle to development.
MPs across the political divide have condemned how former FDC president Dr. Col. Kizza Besigye was arrested. The retired colonel was arrested in Nairobi on Saturday and arraigned before the military court today. The legislators have described the whole episode as a violation of human rights, calling for a strong stand against all injustice. KCCA has repeated its call to the Ham Group of Companies to halt construction activities at the Jugula drainage channel in Nakivubo. The call followed an inspection by KCCA's acting Executive Director, Frank Rusa, at the site of the structure. Rusa was met with concerns about the impact on local traders and the historical St. Balikudembe Pilgrim site, whose access has been compromised. Additionally, Hamis Kiggundu, the proprietor of Ham Enterprises, faced criticism for proceeding with construction works without proper consultation. However, he insisted that there had been negotiations with area leaders regarding a new access route to the pilgrim site. Winnie Byanyima, the wife of Dr. Kizza Besigye, the former leader of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change party, has spoken out after her husband's arrest in Kenya over the weekend. Byanyima, who serves as the executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, explained that Besigye had traveled to Nairobi to attend a book launch for Martha Karua, a Kenyan politician. He had traveled with his colleague, Hajji Obed Kamulegeya, on Saturday and had booked an apartment. However, Besigye failed to attend the event on Sunday, raising concerns among his hosts. Byanyima also noted that both Besigye’s and Kamulegeya’s phones were switched off, prompting colleagues in Kampala to worry. A senior military contact later confirmed that Besigye was being held at the Makindye Military Police barracks. In response to this development, Byanyima stated that she is traveling to Uganda to challenge Besigye's trial in a military court. It was not clear what charges the former presidential candidate was charged with. Leaders from the Refugee host Districts have expressed concern over congestion in schools located in Refugee Camps. They say that the teacher to pupil ratio is also alarming. Wilfred Saka, the Terego District chairperson says some schools in the area have about 4,000 learners yet classes are not enough to accommodate all the learners.

In a joint meeting between Kampala Capital City Authority and Ham Enterprises, all works at the Jugula Channel Nakivubo have been ordered to stop in order to first assess the impact of this controversial project has had on the existing infrastructure around Owino. The agreement has been reached after the two parties led by Acting KCCA Executive Director Frank Rusa and Mr Hamis Kiggundu held a bilateral meeting at KCCA offices in Kampala.
The Confederation of African Football and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations have organized a safe stadium initiative training programme at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. The three-day event that has started this Tuesday seeks to standardise safety and security operations across confederation of African football member associations. The participants included representatives from the members of FUFA, local security agencies and stadium management teams.
