The Commander of Land Forces, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, expressed satisfaction with the work of commanders of Operation Shujaa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on March 22, 2024, discussing matters regarding the operation. The Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, says the government has resorted to using the Law Reform Commission to effect electoral reforms, as required by a 2016 Supreme Court ruling, rather than going through Parliament. The Chairperson of the National Council for Higher Education, Prof. Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya, has called on all universities to deliberately increase the number of PhDs, as this will help stimulate national and economic development. Uganda, he says, has only 2,200 PhDs, yet according to the National Council of Science and Technology, Uganda needs over 10,000, meaning there is a gap of over 8,000 PhDs.
