East African Legislative Assembly members have unanimously passed a motion calling on partner states to harmonize their tax regimes. Uganda's representative, George Odongo, moved the motion, stating that it would boost trade in the region if implemented. The regional legislators observe that tax regimes in the EAC region vary, with Tanzania charging 18% Value Added Tax, Uganda 18%, Kenya 16%, Burundi 15%, Rwanda 18%, and South Sudan not charging VAT. School administrators of Munteme Fatima College, a government-aided secondary school in Kikuube District have decried the state of classroom structures at the school. The existing structures that were built decades ago are leaking which creates an unfavourable learning environment. Marine police have retrieved a body of a 17-year-old boy who is one of the five people who drowned in Lake Victoria yesterday when a boat they were traveling in capsized. According to police, 17 people were traveling on the ill-fated boat from Zinga, Bussi Island to Nakiwogo Landing Site. Three bodies were retrieved yesterday and two people were unaccounted for.
