The International Labour Organization has called upon countries in East Africa and those in the horn of Africa to establish a database for migrant workers in enhancement of tracking purposes. In the high-level engagement of representatives from member states in Kampala, it was established that limited information about migrant workers is facilitating irregular labour mobility.
Lawyers in Uganda have been urged to desist from high legal adoption fees charged to foster parents that want to adopt children. This call was made by Justice John Keitirima, the head of the Family Division of the High Court of Uganda at the adoption awareness conference.
Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Dr. Mary Gorreti Kitutu, has called upon donors to sponsor people in Karamoja to go to areas which have fought climate change through nature-based solutions. Kitutu was officiating at the launch of a five-year, twenty billion Shillings project of building Resilience in Conflict-affected and fragile communities of Karamoja- BRICK, in Rupa sub county, Moroto District. The project is funded by the UNDP and KOICA.
As Irish government has backed a Dublin based investor in developing Kerry food beverages over £5m. The firm will add value to locally produced foods and beverages with the role of ensuring a strong bond between two countries. In a related development, Parliament’s Public Service and Local Government Committee has summoned Busia district authorities over issues relating to corruption and mismanagement of Busia main market. Among those summoned are the town clerk Ronald Baganza, the mayor Sadiki Amin, the RDC Michael Kibwika, as well as the Busia District Chairperson Stephen Mugeni Wasike. A report by the Busia town clerk, Ronald Bagonza to the committee indicates that out of 854 stalls built in the area market, only 304 are occupied. Members of Parliament in Hoima district have expressed frustration over what they suspect is the misuse of over 1trillion shillings meant to rehabilitate roads in the district. The Uganda Road released the money to refurbish some of the crumbling road infrastructure in parts of Kitoba abd Kiganja sub counties, in Hoima. As Uganda joins the rest of the world to commemorate the International women’s day, women in Bugisu Sub region have commended government for establishment of Sino industrial park Uganda - Mbale, which they say has greatly impacted on their stands of living. A cross section of women that Uganda Broadcasting Corporation talked to cited the park as their economic savior.
Women in Katakwi have praised leadership of president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for improving lives of women, especially in the health sector, and putting them in leadership positions, which has economically transformed them. This was during an empowerment event organised in katakwi by the office of the national chairman of NRM, and vice president, Jessica Alupo.
President Yoweri Museveni has challenged the People of Teso sub region in Eastern Uganda to embrace more commercial farming ventures other than citrus farming. Museveni lists Poultry, dairy and fish farming as serious avenues that will drive people including women out of poverty. This was during women's day celebrations in Katakwi where the President revealed a new campaign to enforce free education in government schools as an avenue towards consolidating women emancipation.
