Uganda spends USHS 2.6 trillion in treating diseases caused by alcohol consumption. This was revealed by Margaret Muhanga the Primary health care state minister before the education committee when they were discussing the alcoholic control bill. Statistics on alcohol consumption in Uganda provided that 42.8% of Ugandans aged 15 years and above are alcohol users. According to the minister Muhanga, Uganda is at a high health risk of alcohol related illness with these numbers.
The Prime Minister Robbinah Nabbanja has lauded the NRM Government for fast-tracking the women emancipation agenda noting that the mission is yielding positive results. Nabbanja says the Ugandan women has in the last three decades gained more ground on their male counterparts in various sectors of the economy and can no longer be taken for granted.

The Central Government is planning for a law to regulate the collection of blood from donors, its management, and various aspects of quality. The Uganda National Bureau of Standards has said it does not have the capacity to implement the Alcoholic Drinks Control law if it comes into force because issues of manpower may hinder their ability to follow up. The bill is currently being scrutinized by a select committee comprising members of the trade and health committees of Parliament. Among other things, the Bill seeks to regulate the amount of alcohol consumed by an individual which UNBS says they cannot determine but can check the alcoholic content of a given brand.
