The European investment bank has today announced a 100 million euro line of credit, according to officials the largest ever micro-finance loan extended to financial institutions in the African, Caribbean, and Pacific region. Eight companies, one of them USE listed, utility firm Umeme, are vying for the 90 million dollars in funding from a UK-based consortium of financiers, financing the green economy. From the stock market, Today’s trading was dominated by Banking and telecom, 71 deals executed between the Bank of Baroda and MTN. Bank of Baroda moved 5 million shares, MTN moved 250 thousand shares, followed by SBU and UMEM. Somalia has today deposited her instrument of ratification on the treaty of accession to the East African Community to the EAC Secretary General Dr. Peter Mathuki at the EAC headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania. This marks Somalia's final step to becoming the bloc's eighth partner state. The National Unity Platform President, Robert Kyagulanyi, is standing by the decision taken by senior party leaders, calling on the Deputy President for Buganda Region Mathias Mpuuga to step down. Kyagulanyi says it does not matter whether the decision splits the young party in half, as long it stands for a just cause of ensuring transparency. He insists that he cannot be a partner in crime, even as he moves to reconcile with Mpuuga. Officials from ministry of agriculture animal industry and fisheries filed to give accountability of 15 billion shillings for the goat roll out project a querry the auditor gerenal's report for finacial year ended 30th june 2023. According to the auditor general most of the goats died in the first week of delivery. The chairperson public accounts committee of parliament Muwanga Kivumbi has directed the CID officcer attached to the committee to accompany the program cordinator of the goat roll out project Dr. Steven Kajura from the ministry of Agriculture animal industry and fisheries to get documents including how the supplier was sourced and the procurement process.
The Minister, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, has officially called off the verification exercise for the cleaners at the Old Kampala Playground. This decision comes amidst mounting tensions between the cleaners and the authorities over delayed payments.
In another development, magistrate Erias Kakooza has set 18th Mach 2024, to resume with the case where Kyoto Rashid alias Njovu is accused of murdering UK tourist nationals and their tour guide at Queen Elizabeth National Park last year. According to prosecution Thomas Jatiko, inquiries into the case are all most complete to have the accused committed to high Court for trail.

The outgoing Inspector General of police John Martins Okoth Ochola has handed over office to the Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi upon the expiry of his contract. Ochola has served the force for 36 years while six years at the helm of the force as the Inspector General of Police. Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi will serve in the acting capacity pending for the appointing authority to designate a new IGP

Round two of the national Motocross championship progressed well at Victoria Raceway Park, with over 60 riders taking part despite an early morning downpour. The riders competed in the 50CC, 65, 85, 125, MX2, MX1, and Veterans class categories. Jude Kyle Musedde easily won the 50CC category, while Larry Ssekamwa proved dominant in the 65CC category. Jerome Mubiru emerged victorious in the 85CC category, and Ron Young took the top spot in the 125CC category. Several leaders in the Kigezi sub-region have asked political leaders who become uncomfortable whenever religious leaders comment on politics to abandon this idea, as prelates play a critical role in society's management. This request was made during the thanksgiving ceremony for the long-serving and outspoken priest, Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda, who recently retired from active service at Kitanga Parish, Rukiga District. Fr. The President of the Opposition National Unity Platform, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has insisted that the decision to advise Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga to resign as a Commissioner of Parliament is aimed at standing on the side of truth. Mpuuga has been accused of accepting to receive Shs500 million from the Parliamentary Commission, an issue that has caused tension in the party. Kyagulanyi says if standing against corruption and calling out politicians will divide the party, so be it.
