Kamwenge authorities have raised concern over the increasing degradation of the environment in Rwamwanja refugee settlements. According to Julius Kamuza, the Assistant Settlement Commandant of Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, the camp has close to 100,000 refugees which is leading to degradation of the environment. The Supreme Court has directed both parties to file written submissions in appeal filed by the Attorney General challenging the constitutional Court decision that ordered Parliament to reinstate Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake as commissioner of Parliament.

Local leaders in the Albertine  regional Water and Environment Management zone that include districts of Kamwenge, Bunyangabu and Kasese among others want government to increase the budget for environmental management for meaningful interventions.  RDC Bunyangabu district Joshua Masereka and Kasese LC5 chairman Muhindi Elifaz Bukambi contend that without adequate funding, efforts for environmental conservation will continue to bare meaningless results.

The Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association Electoral Committee has released guidelines for the forthcoming national elections, which are due to commence on 9th March with the election of office bearers at the district level.
