The speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among has directed the minister of internal affairs to bring a report on murders in the country and urged Ugandans to be tolerant in regards to murders. This follows the murder of the leader on Endiga clan Daniel Bbosa in Lungujja over the weekend. During parliamentary sitting legislators raised a concern of many unresolved murders and cases not exclusively being handled plus the issue of gun violence.

The UPDF has confirmed that it is investigating allegations that its soldiers tortured two men working with the UPDF Engineering Brigade to refurbish the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole. The two men, Donald Opio and Emmanuel Oluka accuse the army of torturing them since December 17, 2023, on allegations that they were involved in stealing copper wires used in the building works. Ronaldo Rugumayo became the first Ugandan to make the cut at a DP World Tour Golf event when he drained a mid-range putt on the 18th hole of his second round at the Magical Kenya Open at the Muthaiga Country Club in Nairobi. The Uganda Land Commission says there is an urgent need for the government to scale up the utilization of commercial and agricultural land across the country. They argue that this will spur economic growth and rapid development. Prof. Nyeko Pen-mogi, the Chairperson of the Commission, is singling out the northern region of Uganda, where he says ownership ought to be strengthened through the certification of predominantly communal land. The Private Sector Foundation has once again warned Members of Parliament about the social and economic consequences of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill 2023. The speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among has assigned the deputy speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa to go to Lubowa tour and assess the progress of construction and give a report to Parliament. During parliamentary sitting Anita Among made this resolution following the denial of access to the site by opposition members of Parliament to do their oversight role despite them having secured clearance from the minister of health. Parliament also resolved that the Auditor generals report on Lubowa hospital be presented to Parliament.

Police in Kagadi have arrested the Kagadi District Local government driver for allegedly knocking dead a bodaboda cyclist who had joined his colleagues to stage a peaceful demonstration along Muhorro-Ndaiga-Lake Albert Road. The suspected driver is only identified as stephen reportedly used a double cabin in committing the offence.

Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, a renowned world Economist says that Uganda needs to borrow more money to fund development interventions or else remain entangled in poverty. This comes at a time where some local economists have been bashing the government for alleged high debt burden the country has. Prof. Sachs made the remarks this morning while meeting ministers, government agencies led by the prime minister Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah at the office of the prime minister. Prof. Sachs is in Uganda as a follow up of the SDG meeting that took place in New York last year where the Prime Minister made a presentation at the UN on behalf of the Ugandan Government.

The Mbarara District Resident Commissioner Emmy Kateera Turyabagyenyi has ordered the closure of various sand mines along river Rwizi in Mbarara district. Turyabagyenyi says sand mining and brick making on the banks of the river is degrading the river's Eco-system. He says those who will be affected should register and get money from the Parish Development Modal Funds which they can use to set up alternative sustainable businesses.
