The deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera has opened the criminal session of Court of Appeal at Mbale High Court. The session will enable three judges handle and dispose off 25 cases. The Justices are Fredrick Egonda Ntende, Christopher Gashirabake and Oscar Kihika. While opening the session, Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera revealed that there’s still need to increase the number of judicial officers so that justice can be dispensed to those who need it. Buteera also wants investigations to be expeditiously concluded to reduce case backlog. Environmental activists from different parts of the country have started a 518 kilometre journey from Fort Portal via Kasese through, Mbarara, Masaka up to Kampala to commemorate this year's Water Week. Geoffrey Walker Ayeni, the team leader told journalists that through their trek, they register burning environmental issues which they submit to the Ministry of Water and Environment who forward them to Parliament for consideration. The Mbarara District Resident Commissioner Emmy Kateera Turyabagyenyi has ordered the closure of various sand mines along river Rwizi in Mbarara district. Turyabagyenyi says sand mining and brick making on the banks of the river is degrading the river's Eco-system. He says those who will be affected should register and get money from the Parish Development Modal Funds which they can use to set up alternative sustainable businesses. The 2nd round of the 2024 Technical and Vocational Education Selections (TVET ) have started off at Ntinda Vocational Training Institute, with the Assistant Commissioner for BTVET , Dr. Eddy Turyatemba cautioning managers of government aided Technical Institutions against charging exorbitant fees. The selection exercise targets government aided technical Institutions from Central Region.
Ministry of water and environment has dispatched a team of walkers for environment to a sensitization campaign that encompasses trekking over 500KM from Fort Portal to Kampala via Kasese, Mbarara and Masaka Uganda will in March this year observe another water week with the aim of sensitizing communities on the importance of environmental conservation and optimal use of natural resources.

The Ministry of Education and Sports says that recent reforms in Business Technical Vocational Education have made it difficult for academically weak students to join vocational schools on government sponsorship. Dr. Eddy Turyatemba, the assistant commissioner in charge of vocational education and training, told the heads of vocational training schools and colleges during the student selection exercise yesterday that there is competition from students with good grades who are taking up the slots. The Uganda prisons have not yet received any matching orders for the ongoing transactions between the government of Uganda and a Chinese investor of Tian Tang group for the relocation of Luzira prisons. Frank Mbaine the prisons spokesperson says the relocation business is being handled by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the investor but prison services is operating maximumly at Luzira Prisons.

The UETCL reported gains of up to 94.9 billion shillings in FY 2022/23, a performance supported by a strong shilling during the period, according to officials.
