The deputy speaker of parliament, Thomas Tayebwa has today joined Christians in Mukono to fundraise for the construction of the new cathedral there, expected to cost at least 6 billion shillings. Leading the service, the archbishop of the church of Uganda Dr Grace Kaziimba Mugalu challenged Christians to contribute greatly towards the church’s human resource. The deputy speaker, who carried 20 million shillings from the president, thanked the Anglican Church for their contribution to the education sector, which has been critical to the country's development. The Omuhikirwa of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Andrew Byakutaga has urged the government to spare Uganda Coffee Development Authority in the planned merger of state agencies. The authority is set to be returned to the mother Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries after the merger is completed. However, Byakutaga says the UCDA should be left to operate independently as a way of effectively promoting the coffee sector. President Museveni met and held discussions with the International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor, Karim A. A. Khan at State Lodge, Nakasero. During the Saturday meeting, the two parties “discussed among other issues; Uganda’s importance as a well-respected state party to the ICC. The meeting came just days after the International Criminal Court (ICC) closed its investigation into alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in northern Uganda. The Federation of International Gymnastics president Morinari Watanabe has vowed to continue supporting Uganda in the development of the sport that is still budding in Uganda. Watanabe, who arrived in Uganda on Friday, will stay in the country for seven days during which he will be meeting the responsible parties and also help give advice and equipment needed for the sport. A 30-year-old mother of 2 is languishing in Kiruddu Hospital, near Kampala, after falling over a pan of cooking oil while being pursued by City law enforcement officers, sustaining serious injuries. The incident, which occurred on January 30th, 2024, happened during a scuffle with KCCA enforcement officers who were conducting an operation along Kafumbe Mukasa road.
