Government has finally tabled the respective bills intending to streamline various government agencies eliminate wasteful expenditure. This follows government revisiting the resource envelope and expenditure for the financial year 2024/2025 from 52.723 trillion to 53.336 trillion. Minister of state for Finance Henry Musaasizi attributes the upward shift in the resource envelope to interventions including statutory obligations like UGIFT, Pension and gratuity Funds. Recently, the MPs criticized government for not offering sufficient support to the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer UGIFT Programme.
Uganda's minister for education and sports Janet Museveni has toured Nakivubo Stadium and Mandela National Stadium Namboole. The two iconic facilities have been undergoing renovations in readiness for resumption which is highlighted by the hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of nations.
The UPDF engineering brigade has told Education and sports minister Janet Kataha Museveni that they need 17 billion shillings to complete the renovation work at the Mandela national stadium in Nambole. Uganda Revenue Authority commissioner customs has warned smugglers that goods marked for export or destined for South Sudan or other countries in the region, through Uganda, will have to present a tax identification number or else will be deemed to be engaged in a phenomenon known as round tripping. A Uganda People’s Defence Forces officer shot himself dead after shooting and severely injuring his estranged lover in Lusaka Zone, Makindye Division, Kampala. The woman died in the hospital where she was rushed. Police have identified the officer as Corporal Collins Andebo, attached to Makindye Military Police barracks, while the woman has been identified as Peroni Atulinda, a civilian support staff who has been working with the military police. Some people have been arrested in Busia town during an operation by the Busia Municipal Council against washing bays operating in road reserves. A team of Kampala-based lawyers has petitioned the Constitutional Court seeking the abolition of cash bail conditions given to suspects on remand. According to Amos Kuuku, an advocate attached to Ssematimba and Advocates, it is an injustice for suspects granted bail to be taken back to jail after failing to pay bail fees.
