28 supporters of the National Unit Platform who were arrested in 2021 on charges of unlawful possession of ammunition have again been denied bail by the General Court Martial. This is the third time the suspects have been denied bail, having started the process last year. This time, several NUP MPs led by Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of the Opposition were among the sureties. Sureties that were previously presented were considered unsubstantial by the military court. The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces spokesperson Brig Felix Kulayigye says the recently launched UPDF Establishment Act will take away any apparent ambiguities in the army's reporting lines. The Anti-Corruption Court Judge Jane Okuo Kajuga has dismissed an application filed by the Minister of Karamoja Affairs, Dr Mary Gorreti Kittutu that sought to block the Inspectorate of Government(IG) from prosecuting her for causing a 1.5 billion shillings loss. The MP is accused of causing to government to fail to conduct various Peace Building Activities in Karamoja Sub-region between February and June/2022. This means that the Minister will now have to appear before the Magistrates' Division of the Anti-Corruption Court for trial next week on 29th February, to answer pending criminal charges, for which she was summoned. The local leaders of Muyenga, Bukasa and Namuwongo area and security organs have held an engagement to address the problem of thefts and robbery committed by bodaboda Riders and agreed to pass by laws to register all bodaboda motorists and install cameras at every gate including security lights. This engagement was attended by the UPDF Commander operation in Kampala Col Fred Mwesigye District Police Commander of Kabalagala (DPC)Emanuel Mafundo, Muyenga 11 Chairman Yasin Omar and others.

The Inspector General of Government has been cleared by the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court to prosecute Karamoja Affairs Minister Goretti Kitutu for offenses relating to failure to conduct peacebuilding activities in the Karamoja region, leading to a loss of sh.1.5 billion. Kitutu is required to respond by way of criminal summons before the Magistrates Court on the 29th of this month. Justice Jane Kajuga agreed with the IGG that none of Kitutu's rights to a fair hearing were violated when both the DPP (on diversion of iron sheets) and IGG chose to prosecute her separately. Kajuga agrees with Kitutu that she will incur more costs in defending herself for the separate criminal charges, citing the absence of a law that bars multiple trials as long as they are not based on the same transactions.
