The government of Uganda has initiated negotiations to rescue three Ugandan fishermen abducted by the authorities of DRC on the waters of Lake Edward. Based on police preliminary findings, the triple had crossed the Ugandan boundary which prompted action by Congolese authorities.
President Museveni has been honoured with a prestigious Social and Economic Commitment Award by the European Corporate Council on Africa and the Middle East (ECAM). The President was presented with the award today by the Prime Minister, Rt.Hon. Robinah Nabbanja at State House Entebbe.
The Pookino cup which is a Buganda kingdom initiative to tap football talent has started in Buddu. Early this year, Buganda Kingdom’s sports department initiated a football tournament that they code-named empaka zomupiira gwamagobolola mu Buganda. The purpose of the competition is to identify, nurture, promote and develop grass root talent largely to benefit the Masaza gabuganda football tournament. All the 175 sub counties of Buganda are taking part in this but within the 18 sub counties and the tournaments named after the official title of the county chief. The competition in Busiro is called Sebwana cup, in Buvuma it’s known as Mbuubi Cup while in Buddu it’s the Pookino cup.
Preparations are underway at Busesa, Bugweri District headquarters for the upcoming 43rd Tarehe Sita Anniversary. The UPDF and sister security forces conducted final rehearsals for parade drills and associated protocols. The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces have provided medical treatment to approximately 40,000 people in Bugweri district, including major and minor surgeries. Several head teachers of government-aided schools are stuck and struggling to start the first term due to the delayed disbursement of the capitation grant funds to their institutions. Although the Ministry of Finance released upwards of 136.5 billion in these funds one week ago, several local governments are yet to receive the money in the school accounts. This delay has left head teachers unable to adequately prepare for the new academic term. The police are investigating a shooting incident where four male adults, residents of Mbale, were brutally shot by unknown gunmen in Amudat, Karamoja sub-region. The incident occurred along the Amudat-Katabok road at around 3:30 pm on Sunday.
