At least 64 houses, crops, and animals have been burnt after a land conflict in Kela Village, Ludara Sub-county in Koboko District, between members of Igaba Clan and Gimere Clan. The dispute over the ownership of 5 acres of land started in 2003. The insecurity has forced about 513 people to flee their homes to Ururuja Village in Nyajo Parish. They have no shelter, food, and medical care. Uganda’s plans to triple its coffee exports by 2030, seem to be taking the right direction as coffee exporter’s record a surge in the number of coffee bags brought in by farmers. At least 6.5million bags of coffee were collected in 2023 compared to 6.2 million bags that were exported in the previous year.
People from Kween and Bukwo districts have denied Pokot pastoralists access to graze in their districts, accusing them of having committed atrocities like killings, animal theft, land grabbing and grazing in people ‘s gardens. The third division commander Maj. Gen Don Williams Nabasa convened a security meeting at Lokales sub county Amudat district, Pokot leaders pleaded with the Sabinys to be allowed to graze but in vain.
