All is set for Kampala, the host territory for the Non-Aligned Movement and the G77+China summits. The city's facelift to accommodate over 120 delegates is evident, with various details contributing to this transformative atmosphere. The highly anticipated 19th Non-Aligned Movement Summit kicked off today at Speke Resort, Munyonyo, in Makindye Division. Kampala's beautification ambiance stands out as a prominent feature, welcoming delegates during the hosting of the Summits.
As the non-aligned movement summit continues at Speke Resort Munyonyo, UBC went to downtown Kampala to get people’s views about the summit that starts today Monday January 15 attended by over 5000 delegates. However, the common man seems taken by the outstanding preparations that may not benefit them directly. Policy has it that all the country’s sectors benefit. The delegates hail from over 100 countries and South Sudan has also applied to join the movement.
Security have urged the public to be co-operative during this period of hosting international summits especially at the newly established security centers. Police spokesperson has reiterated on the additional security measures erected to monitor gatherings and patrols along major routes.

UGANDAN PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO UN; ADONIA AYEBARE ELECTED CHAIRMAN PREPARATORY SENIOR OFFICIALS
Ugandan representative to the United Nations Ambassador Adonia Ayebare has been elected chairman preparatory senior officials meeting during the first session of the 19th nonaligned movement summit in Rwenzori convention center at Speke resort Munyonyo.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is a forum of 120 countries that are not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. It was founded in 1950 to advance interests of developing countries in the context of Cold War confrontation. The initiative was formed by two countries Yugoslavia and India in 1950. A historian with Kyambogo university Professor Robert Odhiambo highlights Uganda joining the movement and how it has benefited in shaping its democracy.
At the end of the five-year Agricultural Cluster Development Project, funded by the World Bank in excess of 500 billion shillings, the lives of many farmers have been impacted in the 57 districts of the project. However, observers note glaring capacity gaps that may need government support to ensure the impact is not eroded. The business side of the Non-Aligned Movement Conference kicked off as the main political meetings in Uganda sought to showcase its agricultural and tourism opportunities. The meetings brought together the private sector, the business community, and diplomats from numerous missions abroad. The three-day business forum aims to present investment opportunities for foreign delegates along with an exhibition. The National Unity Platform Party has tasked the police and the army to explain an attempted raid on the party's headquarters in Makerere, Kavule in Kampala. According to NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, who doubles as the leader of opposition in Parliament, security personnel dressed in military and police uniforms tried to forcefully access the NUP headquarters on Saturday evening. However, they were stopped by security men there.
