The National Blood Bank has received a boost of blood units thanks to a blood donation drive launched by I&M bank in Uganda. I&M bank management justifies the initiative as purely a platform to create shared values with their stakeholders. The drive that is running at the Kingdom Kampala-based headquarters and different branches across the country, targets to collect at least 500 units of blood. The National Blood Bank is mandated to provide sufficient and efficacious blood and blood components through voluntary donations for appropriate use in healthcare service delivery. But without partnerships such as these, fulfillment of this mandate may prove impossible.
State House Anti-Corruption Unit has revealed that 543 individuals including civil servants and private individuals have been charged in courts of law for land related fraud, massive evictions, and misuse of government resources across the country. This was revealed by the Deputy Head, State house Anti-Corruption Unit Israel Ochwo during a media briefing in Lira city. Civil Society Organizations in Jinja and Buikwe districts are concerned at the rise in the number street children living there. The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, has asked for time to scrutinize key priority areas as presented in the budget frame work paper for Financial Year 2024/2025 to ensure positive outcomes. Ramathan Ggoobi, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance and secretary to treasury, responded to the number of queries by members of Parliament sitting on the Budget Committee who failed to defend the finances for the cited priorities in the BFP for the next financial year. The ministry is yet to come up with a master plan to increase the revenue collection in Uganda away from the tax base. Ggoobi and officials from the ministry of finance were defending the Budge3t Framework Paper for FY 2024/2025.
In just one year, the government of Uganda, under a joint venture agreement with Meera Investment Limited, has managed to construct a multi-billion convention centre at Speke Resort Hotel, Munyonyo. With the Non-Aligned Movement and G77+China summits hours away from a start, the Police has warned road users of traffic disruptions in their movements starting Monday. According to the traffic police spokesperson, Michael Kananura, the main routes for the summit will be the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway to Speke Resort in Munyonyo, as well as Kampala-Entebbe Expressway through Northern Bypass-Binaisa road, Mulago roundabout-Yusuf Lule to Nile Avenue. The Uganda National Roads Authority is upgrading Nakawuka road from its current class C gravel road status to Asphalt- paved standard. A contractor has already on the 340 billion shillings project for three years running from 15th December 2023 to 15th December 2026. However, government is still grappling with the challenge of land acquisition and compensation of project-affected areas. Wakiso area leaders met with the minister of works and transport Gen. The inter security agencies have confirmed strategic deployment intended to protect different heads of state and Government representatives coming to attend the two high profile summits; the Non-Aligned Movement and G77+China, slated for next week in Kampala. Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, has reassured the public that there will be no terror threat to the country during this period.
Traffic police have gazetted Entebbe expressway and northern bypass as the main routes for the forthcoming Non-Aligned Movement and G77+China summits from 15th of January to the 23rd of January 2024. Other motorists are prohibited from these routes while other traffic will be diverted and Boda Bodas suspended.
Ahead of the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement summit in Uganda, 30 heads of state, including the UN General Assembly President, Denis Francis, have confirmed their attendance. Permanent Secretary, ministry of foreign affairs, Vincent Bagiire, shared this information during an inspection tour by the National Organizing Committee for NAM and G77+China summits, at the Commonwealth Resort Hotel, Muyonyo.
