The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council has officially dismissed former First Deputy Mufti Sheikh Abdullah Ssemambo. The Council accuses Sheikh Ssemambo of conspiring against the Mufti, contrary to the Council's established constitution. Ssemambo's dismissal follows a joint session meeting of 41 Muslim leaders out of 47, including Islamic scholars in Sharia, who unilaterally reached their agreement. However, Sheikh Ssemambo, who is now on a nationwide tour, was elected by some members of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council General Assembly, following a dispute over a controversial land sale that has threatened the future of many council properties. As they gear up for their first T20 World Cup appearance in June 2024, the Cricket Cranes team has initiated their training sessions with a 10-day boot camp in Jinja. The team, consisting of 21 players, including 2 debutants, Innocent Mwebaze and Muhammed Shaf, will utilize this camp to focus on team culture and physical fitness. The primary objective of the boot camp is to select a squad that will participate in a training camp in India later this month. Leading the boot camp is the interim Head Coach, Jackson Ogwang.

The speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among has urged the parliamentarians under the commonwealth to consider passing laws which pursue fruits of democracy. While addressing the conference of speakers and presiding officers of the commonwealth, Speaker told the delegates to ensure that they follow up with the implementation of the laws passed by respective parliaments. The Conference which was graced by President Yoweri Museveni in Kampala signifies unity and democratization among the countries subscribing to the commonwealth.

President Yoweri Museveni has told a section of the developed western world to desist from tendencies of imposing policies on people that differ from theirs. Museveni’s call comes in the wake of recent concerns raised by western powers regarding the recent passing of the anti – homosexuality law in Uganda. While opening the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth, Museveni described imperialism as backward and satanic urging those concerned to influence by example.

Police in Buikwe District has recorded a tragic accident that occurred around 01:00 pm on 03/01/2024 at Bulyantente near the flyover along the Kampala-Jinja Highway in Buikwe District. The incident involved a Mitsubishi Fuso truck with registration number UBN 533T, colored white, and driven by an as-yet-unidentified driver. It is reported that the Mitsubishi Fuso truck, carrying sacks of oranges and passengers hidden under a tapeline to evade traffic police, lost control and overturned in a water channel at Bulyantente. The angle bars of the tapeline covering the vehicle collapsed on the passengers, leading to their suffocation. Nine bodies have been recovered from the scene and transported to the Kawolo Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination. Out of the seven unidentified bodies, only two have been identified. Additionally, three victims are currently receiving treatment at Kawolo Hospital. Hellen Butoto, the Police spokesperson for the Ssezibwa region, has confirmed the accident, stating that investigations are ongoing.

The government has initiated the restoration of an 8.2km Mparo-Noozi-Butambi road in Rukiga District, with the project valued at Ushs1.06 billion. The Ministry of Works and Transport officially launched this initiative, aimed at enhancing connectivity between Rukiga and Rubanda, spanning Mparo Town Council, Rwamucucu Sub County, and Nyamweru Sub County.

Limited funds allocated to Kasangati Town Council have become a significant impediment to development in the area, as disclosed by the Mayor, Tom Muwonge, during a road maintenance inspection tour that covered Luteete, Kiteezi-Namarere in Wakiso district.
