It was a day full of fan and jubilation at the Kabaka's palace in Mengo on the official Buganda Kingdom new year fanfare. This is the official celebration at which the Kabaka officially ushers in the new year with the ceremonial turning of the key. In Mubende District, the joy was overwhelming as the people had not celebrated in style. The area had not held New Year's Day celebrations for three years as the area was struck initially by the Covid-19 lockdown and then an Ebola outbreak in the area.
