The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has expressed confidence in Uganda's readiness to host the Conference of the Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth, starting on Wednesday. The optimism came as she took a guided tour of Entebbe International Airport to ascertain the state of facilities at Entebbe. Speaker Among revealed that at least 43 speakers out of 73 have confirmed attendance for the three-day conference. The government has formally received 141 former Lord's Resistance Army combatants at the SOS Community Centre, Pece Pawel Central in Gulu District, after abandoning the rebellion three months ago in the DR Congo. The Minister for Northern Uganda Affairs Grace KWIY-U-CWINY cautioned the ex-combatants against engaging in crime after being granted amnesty. Christians under their Umbrella Organisation, National Fellowship of Born Again Pentecostal churches of Uganda, have appealed to government to offer amnesty to all those people that were jailed during the 2021 general election.
Ahead of the 12th January, 2024 Mk Movement Baraza in Mitooma, leaders in the district have addressed a press conference to mobilize people to come and attend in big Numbers. Mk movement leaders, including the mayor, Kashenshero town council, Arinda Edgar, and lady councilor, Mitooma town council, Mbaabazi Mary, addressed the media at Mitooma town council offices to shed more light on the function. Arinda says as Mitooma, they are ready to welcome Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba on 12th January, 2024, at Mitooma playground. some of the activities lined up for January 12th include, among others tree planting to conserve the environment, games and sports, and music, dance and drama.
Leaders of Madi-Okollo district have warned managers of tractors supplied by the government of Uganda against misuse and personalizing them. They say the tractors are for the community to improve agricultural production with aim of eliminating household poverty. Madi-Okollo got twelve handheld tractors for the twelve lower local governments, and a bigger one managed by Ofaka SACCO, with supervision of the district. The launch and handover of Madi-Okollo tractors was undertaken by West Nile regional Whip, Jackson Atima, together with district political and technical leaders.
Former Defense minister, Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga has commended security organs for the tremendous work they have exhibited in fighting the ADF which has been terrorizing communities neighboring the national parks. Government reveals plans to construct more remand homes for juveniles across the country due to an influx in the number of youthful offenders. This comes on the back of reports that about 300 juveniles are expected to be rehabilitated and taught different skills annually before they are reinstated in the community. In football, Kyabazinga of Busoga William Gabula Nadiope made his first public appearance since his wedding, presiding over the finals of the Masaza Cup at Kakindu Stadium. Ismail Ndifuna from Busiki team scored the lone goal to beat Butembe Chiefdom, to claim the Masaza Cup. The annual tourney attracted all 14 chiefdom teams who managed to reach the finals. The government has allowed over 1,000 residents of Mandwiga in Kyangwali Sub County Kikuube District to reoccupy a tract of land that they had been evicted from in 2012. Uganda and a Korean International Youth fellowship organization is set to establish a mindset change University to fight unwanted characters in society like corruption, drug abuse and other criminal behaviors. State Minister for ICT, Godfrey Kabyanga, says Uganda’s problems are entrenched in the wrong mindset of the people that lead them to do unwanted things. He made the remarks during a public lecture on mindset at Makerere University, organized by the International Youth fellowship, a Korean-led organization.
Dr. Birungi Mutahunga, the District Health Officer for Kanungu, has welcomed government's initiative to provide ambulances for emergency treatment in transit. She expressed gratitude while receiving a type B ambulance and tricycles, delivered by Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Member of Parliament for Kinkizi County East. Baryomunsi emphasized the importance of responsible use of these vehicles.
The Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, has expressed support for the construction of the Kambuga Catholic Church Grotto to honor Mother Mary. He generously contributed 13 million towards the construction, endorsed the choir, and pledged additional support. The Parish Priest for Kambuga in Kanungu district warmly welcomed the Minister's gesture and stated that construction would commence soon, now that the necessary funds have been raised.
