While the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control under the Ministry of Internal Affairs is working to increase the production of passports, it is concerned about the large number of uncollected booklets. With a production capacity of 30,000, the ministry is currently producing only 12,000, and over 40,000 remain uncollected. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is grappling with more than 2,000 passports confiscated from illegal labor export companies. The ministry's spokesperson, Simon Peter Mundeyi, states that additional passports were seized from victims of human trafficking who were intercepted. Police and other security operatives have been deployed in Kirowooza, Nyendo-Mukungwe in Masaka City, where the leader of the National Unity Platform, Robert Kagulanyi Ssentamu, along with other party officials and supporters, is attending prayers in memory of the late Frank Ssenteza. Ssenteza, a member of Kyagulanyi's campaign team, tragically passed away in 2021 in a motor accident while traveling from a campaign rally. Some party activists have raised suspicions about foul play in his death. Residents of Kamwenge District in Western Uganda in collaboration with security agencies are pursuing ADF rebels suspected to have sneaked into Uganda from the Democratic Republic of Congo causing havoc. The response follows recent attacks in Kitehurize Cell and Nyabitutsi, all in Kamwenge District where ten people were killed and scores injured. UPDF says these isolated attacks will not divert them from pursuing the enemy from DRC advising the public to remain calm but vigilant.
The Red Cross has extended a helping hand to residents affected by the recent fires in the Wabiduuku area of Kiwatule in Nakawa district. Essential items, including mosquito nets and blankets, were donated to support those who lost their belongings in the blaze.
