Inadequate menstrual hygiene education, insufficient water and sanitation facilities, and limited access to sanitary materials in schools have disrupted their education. Thousands of Sierra Leonean girls miss school during their menses, impacting their attendance, learning outcomes, and overall completion rates. WATCH this short video, produced by AYV Media Empire and Salone Messenger Media, which highlights the challenges and successes in Menstrual Hygiene Management in Sierra Leone, and the incredible contributions of individuals and organisations working to ensure that women and girls are not limited by something as natural as their periods. “Many things went wrong even before the event was scheduled. We realised that a truck blocked the road, making it difficult for lawyers in Bo to access the hall in Kenema. There is also an elephant in the room. That is the political undercurrent in all of these. When you are look at the candidates in both camps. They were on radio and Tv saying they belong to certain political parties. There is nothing wrong for lawyers to belong to political parties { APC or SLPP} but there should a standards of society that we want” Andrew Lavalie, Executive Director of IGR, speaking to John Konteh on AYV on Sunday, in relation to the Sierra Leone Bar Association (post elections). "All we need to do is win all our matches. I believe we have the players to achieve this, but it's crucial to ensure that only those who are actively playing are selected. There is a difference between being fit and being match fit. If you are not both fit and match fit, you are not ready to play. To represent your country, you need to be playing consistently, week in and week out." Ibrahim B. Kamara, a retired professional and a national football hero of Sierra Leone on MID-WEEK SPORT to discuss the requirements for sports. Ambassador of the United States of America to Sierra Leone, Bryan David Hunt has said for Sierra Leone to move forward, its people should break the circle of political parties hijacking civil societies and pressure groups. He was speaking on AYV Media Empire’s flagship program, Wake Up Sierra Leone where he advised that political parties should make it clear that the affairs of these organisations are independent. Ambassador Hunt speaks on the recently held Sierra Leone Bar Association elections, noting that a bar election is not and should not be about APC and/or SLPP. He said: “The election is about who is going to manage an Association that promotes the rule of law, equal treatment before the law and promotes human right in the most effective way. Certainly there is no APC or SLPP way to do a rule of law. There is just the rule of law. “I have heard that this APC versus SLPP contest even goes down to Church and Mosque management committees. Sierra Leoneans need to change the way they identify themselves, stop seeing themselves as either APC or SLPP but as Sierra Leoneans. I have heard very well educated Sierra Leoneans saying to me; …he betrayed his tribe, he is from the north and he should be APC, he is from the south, she should be SLPP… That is dangerous. We need to take such out of our mouths. “In Sierra Leone today, if you belong to the political party I do not belong to, therefore, all your ideas are bad and if you belong to the political party that I belong then everything you do is perfectly fine. We have to break that cycle if we really want to see Sierra Leone progress. National issues are issues that should not been seen with a political party lens but with national lens”.
