More than 100 family members of the victims will gather in Canberra today and lay a wreath in their honour. KPMG will close its in-house legal division and make 30 jobs redundant in the consulting firm’s second major restructure in the past month. The restructure means KPMG will no longer operate a separate commercial law practice. It will also integrate its tax controversy and disputes practice into its tax division. These changes will take effect from September 30.

Rio Tinto has received approval from the Guinean and Chinese governments to develop the $34.3 billion Simandou iron ore project in West Africa. Production is expected to begin next year. Rio Tinto will contribute about $9.2 billion in costs towards the development. Once fully operational, Simandou will be able to export about 120 million tonnes of iron ore per year.
