Journalist and Commentator Brad Polumbo has hit out at left-wing activists over claims the failed assassination attempt on the life of former US president Donald Trump was staged. "There was nothing fake about this it was a grotesque and irresponsible conspiracy theory with no basis in reality, no evidence behind it," Mr Polumbo said. "It's total brain rot, it's total madness, it's total lunacy. "People with a platform to do this kind of thing in the aftermath of a national tragedy it's just beyond disgraceful."

Former US president Donald Trump discussed the expected event of his assassination with Australia’s Former US ambassador Joe Hockey. “I have spoken with him about this sort of event possibly occurring … the first time I played golf with him … all the security around him as president,” Mr Hockey said. “I think he thought this was a very real risk for him, his reaction was these buggers are not going to get me down and they are not going to get you down and this is the moment where we stand up, where we fight, we fight for what we believe.”
