Author Douglas Murray has analysed “woeful” figures in the United States economy under the Biden administration. “Whether it's median household income, whether it's things like the rise in median household income for Black Americans, by the way, which was better under Trump than under Obama,” Mr Murray told Sky News host Rita Panahi. “If you look at things like inflation, which is causing devastation to Americans paying their bills each month or you go to something like the attainability of getting on the household ladder. “First-time homeownership is tougher now than it's been in America at any point since 1984.”
Former President Barack Obama praised Joe Biden during his speech at the Democratic National Convention. "Other than some common Irish blood, Joe and I come from different backgrounds. "I am proud to call him my president, but even prouder to call him my friend. Thank you, Joe".
Sky News host Paul Murray has weighed in on the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. US President Joe Biden was one of the few notable guests who delivered an address before the Democratic National Convention on day one, weeks after he begrudgingly decided to pull out of the election race. “Can I just call BS on this … pass the torch,” Mr Murray said. “A torch in this fashion was not passed. They held him down, and they yanked it out of his almost cold dead hand. “Now, it is just a month since that took place, but remember the month before that, when the passing of the torch was not his plan at all.”

ASPI Senior Analyst Malcolm Davis says “a lot” is hinging on the Israel-Hamas ceasefire negotiations as Iran is “likely” to retaliate if they fail. This comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to a ceasefire proposal brokered by the United States. “There’s a lot hinging on this, in the sense that if the ceasefire negotiations do fail, then what is likely to happen is that Iran is likely to carry through with its threat to retaliate,” Mr Davis told Sky News Australia. “You would then have that escalatory cycle to a much larger war.”
CommSec’s Tom Piotrowski says the US stock market just missed out on its eighth consecutive day of gains. “But to put it into the context that is required here, you saw that very steep sell-off in the first days of August,” he told Sky News Australia. “So, I suppose the thing is that the markets have regained their nerve; they’ve refocused on fundamentals; that’s important.” Presented by CommSec.

Female footballers say the AFL’s open policy allowing transgender players to compete at a community level is putting women’s safety at risk and trashing fairness. “When it comes to community level footy – which can include 16-year-old girls or women in their 50s and anything in between – it seems there is a complete open door policy,” Ms Marcus said. “You basically just have to identify as a woman, use the right pronouns and you’re allowed to throw on a jersey and play against women.”
