Monash University professor of cybersecurity Nigel Phair has discussed what to look out for to avoid scams this holiday season. "The first one logically is an outrageously reduced price. It just doesn't suit the norm of a holiday apartment on the coast, for example. The prime time is going to be expensive," Mr Phair told Sky News Australia. "A pair of shoes is something that's only in the hundreds of dollars, but is reduced by 70 per cent and it's a well-known brand. That's another one because people will take a bit of a punt with a few hundred dollars. "So looking at the URL of the website, again, it's getting more and more difficult for casual users out there and potentially one of the best things you can do is actually ring up the store if that's possible, if it is a legitimate brand that's being spoofed and actually verifying it themselves."
