Donald Trump's sentencing in his Manhattan hush money trial has been postponed indefinitely by a New York judge. Many claim the trial is one step closer to being over, as the judge considers whether the case should be dismissed entirely. Trump's spokesperson Steven Chung called it a win, saying in part of a statement "President Trump won a landslide victory as the American people have issued a mandate to return him to office and dispose of all remnants of the witch hunt cases".
A volcano on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula has erupted for the seventh time in 12 months. Authorities are warning of gas emissions, especially in the nearby town of Grindavik. The repeated eruptions have damaged property and infrastructure.

The point of it is actually to get them, I guess, demonstrating to the local community the importance of exercise and physical activity.”
US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated hedge-fund manager Scott Bessent as US Treasury Secretary. The 62-year-old is an advocate for tax reform and deregulation, particularly to encourage more bank lending and energy production. New South Wales Police have met with the press to address the fatal overnight shooting taking place in the Sydney suburb Surry Hills. The victim believed to be a man in his thirties was treated by paramedics but died at the scene. NSW Police confirmed the victim was known to the police and it was a targeted attack.
More than six million Australians across 38 national private hospitals will be impacted after hospital operator Healthscope announced its plans to terminate contracts with private health insurers. The companies include Bupa and the Australian Health Services Alliance. The two companies allegedly refused to pay a hospital facility fee which covers the gap between health insurance payouts and the cost of hospital care. Private Healthcare Australia has accused Healthscope of alleged bullying and being unethical.
Israel has expressed outrage at Australia's decision to deny a visa to its former justice minister Ayelet Shaked. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke confirmed the application had been rejected but failed to explain why. Ms Shaked was reportedly barred under the belief she may vilify or incite discord in Australia. Ms Shaked responded to the decision on X, calling the Australian government “antisemitic”. "The issue here is not that I didn't get a visa. The issue here is that the current Australian government has become antisemitic,” she said.
