Former US Republican congressman Zach Wamp has discussed how Donald Trump’s legal troubles have affected the former US president ahead of the 2024 election. “Unfortunately for a lot of voters in America, the more legal trouble he seems to get in, the stronger his poll numbers are,” Mr Wamp told Sky News Australia. “Because probably 30 million people think that he’s a saint and that he’s not guilty, that he’s a victim. “So this sort of underscores the victimisation that he seeks, and so it’s fascinating.” Mr Trump is currently facing multiple criminal charges across four indictments.

Labor is divided after Productivity Commission Chair Danielle Wood raised concerns over the ‘Future Made in Australia’ plan. Resources Minister Madeleine King has acknowledged merit in some of Ms Wood’s concerns despite Labor President Wayne Swan calling Ms Wood “out of touch”. “(She) is completely out of touch with the international reality. I mean, all of our major competitors are doing this. We have to be in it to win it,” Mr Swan said. The minister states the government would need to be transparent about the act’s proposed level of legislative oversight. Ms King maintained the party line – however, she said Australia cannot afford to fall behind in international competitiveness.

Former US President Donald Trump says a federal abortion ban is not needed because “we broke Roe v. Wade”. Mr Trump during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago in Florida with House Speaker Mike Johnson was asked by a reporter why American voters should trust him when he said he would no longer sign a federal abortion ban. “We don’t need it any longer, because we broke Roe v. Wade, and we did something that nobody thought was possible,” Trump said. “We gave it back to the states. “And the states are very working very brilliantly, in some cases conservative, in some cases not conservative. “But they’re working and it’s working the way it’s supposed to.”

US President Joe Biden is loved by many American broadcasters but it puts networks in an uncomfortable position of essentially “barracking for the government” rather than asking tough questions, says Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton. “Who needs actual journalism when you can just have stenographers blindly praising every move?” Mr Houghton said. His remarks come after an MSNBC panel discussed the state of the US economy off the back of some positive jobs data, despite the nation being stuck in the grips of an inflation and debt crisis. “The panel made some bold claims about how great the economy was going, even though the country is suffering under $34 trillion dollars of debt,” he said. “A recent survey also found that 61 per cent of Americans are in pretty major credit card debt, owing an average of $5,800 and 23 per cent of those respondents say every month the debt worsens. “But ignoring all that, this panel went on and as far as to argue that people should not even be able to make the argument the economy has issues. “It’s all Republican spin according to these distinguished journalists.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to produce two new Netflix series and the announcement has Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton “questioning management” in the streaming platform. “What on Earth is Netflix thinking?” Mr Houghton said. According to The Guardian, the two shows will be about ‘lifestyle and polo’. “And somehow it gets worse – it’s not just polo, the couple will also appear in shows about the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship,” Mr Houghton said. “It’s an odd move that a couple furious with media attention is furiously pitching projects to major media companies. “But that hypocrisy aside, Netflix has previously axed a component of the deal, including an animated series which was dubbed 'Pearl'. “We know these shows don't do well and are widely mocked so what on Earth is Netflix thinking, making programming about the power of friendship and gardening with Meghan Markle.”
