Commsec Market Analyst Laura Besarati says the gold price has been “retreating” after hitting recent record highs. The gold sector got crunched today with eight out of the ten worst performers in the markets being gold stocks. “There have been a few drivers in the past couple of days – on Friday, we did see that very surprising jump in the Non Farm Payrolls over in the US,” Ms Besarati said. “We’ve seen the US dollar pushing higher and that saw gold prices slump 3.5 per cent in Friday’s session.”

It comes as Mr Dutton on Tuesday during a media conference after he confirmed that the Coalition will not commit to a new 2030 climate target before the election. “Australian people don’t know what they're signing up for if he won’t take a target to the next election. “It seems to be a lot of confusion frankly from the Coalition over the last few days and over the energy policy more broadly. “And I think the community doesn’t really know what they stand for, and it sounds like Peter doesn’t want to tell them either.”

Liberal Senator Andrew Bragg has slammed Labor over their 1.2 million new houses target which they have “no chance of meeting”. Opposition leader Peter Dutton has confirmed the Coalition will not reveal a new 2030 emissions target before the next election. “We haven’t favoured codifying these international agreements into domestic legislation, and there are a lot of other countries agree that’s not always necessary,” Mr Bragg told Sky News Australia. “Just because you legislate something doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. “Labor’s got a 1.2 million new houses target they’ve got no chance of meeting.”

US authorities found any level of PFOS and PFOA in drinking water is unsafe and likely to cause cancer. PFOA is permitted in Australian tap water at 140 times the maximum levels allowed by the United States. Analysis from Nine newspapers indicates the chemicals have been found in the drinking water of 1.8 million Australians since 2010.
